How We Got Started

Senior Services Marketer

A rude awakening

Years ago my elderly dad, who lived alone, fell. He could not get to the phone. He languished for several days. Finally, we found him in a greatly weakened state. Thankfully, he recovered.

That experience was a rude awakening.

At about the same time, I was looking to expand my marketing services from Catholic nonprofits to another venture. The idea of marketing for medical services seemed a good combination of my promotion marketing and interest in ministering to others in some way.

Writing to get clients

My full-time marketing business, TreeFrogClick, Inc. was launched in 2007. At that time, I hired several helpers, and our main clientele were Catholic religious communities and non-profits. This worked out well, but to ensure growth and stability, we added senior marketing to our area of expertise.

When it came to copywriting, I became obsessed with marketing legends such as Claude Hopkins, David Ogilvy, and Dan Kennedy. It amazed me how well-written ad copy, placed before the eyes of the right audience, can win new clients.

Early in my career I drew my advertising knowledge from my experience working in the ad department of the Chicago Sun-Times. Later I worked as a reporter with the Sun-Journal newspaper in the Chicago suburbs. I then worked as public information director at a nonprofit, and then in print production, typesetting and editing for another nonprofit. After that, I learned database and website design for a Catholic religious organization.

Today, when I hire helpers in one way or another, everything that goes out the door here is written or supervised by me. Thus, you know that the person you talk with on the phone is where the buck stops. Check out my portfolio of projects.

I live with my wife and two children in the Chicago suburbs.

Why hire a freelancer?

Expertise in the medical industry

A freelance writer that specializes medical services or products will be more knowledgeable about your industry than a marketing agency that works with many industries. This is especially helpful when it comes to developing content for you such as whitepapers, infographics, brochures, etc.

They are more accessible

Since the freelance medical writer works with a fewer number of clients, they are able to give more attention to each client. And they are more accessible by phone, email, and other means.

They know business

Since they run their own business, they know from hard-won experience that their marketing efforts must bring in new clients as well as keep current ones. If you don’t get a decent ROI, it’s time to re-evaluate your methods.

It's easier for them to update when necessary

Since new forms of marketing are constantly being developed, a freelancer knows that he must keep his ear to the ground. Like the English navy, which defeated the much larger force of the Spanish Armada, smaller ships who know their technology can outmaneuver and change strategy more quickly than larger organizations.

Fresh views come from outside of your office

Sometimes it takes a fresh pair of eyes to solve a problem. Your own employees may be spinning in circles with the same old solutions to marketing problems. You are too close to the situation. A freelancer can give you a fresh perspective.
