Are you wasting your ad budget?
Google receives some $12 billion in ad revenue each year. Facebook, some $4 billion. But how much of that is wasted?
By wasted I mean that many marketers fail to include one essential step in their ad plan: a good landing page.
A landing page is where people go when they click on your ad, whether the ad is on Google, Facebook or another platform. It is not just any page on your website. The landing page is a specially-crafted page that follows through on the specific promise in the ad.
Many ad takers fail in this important step. When I click on an ad on Google and it goes only to their home page, I want to scream, “Your ad is wasted!” Such a marketer expects the prospect to look all around their website to find the service that is promised. It’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Don’t distract
The best marketers today use a special landing page that is stripped of the website’s banner with its menu and other distracting links. It has a nice big headline, some images, a clear call to action, a phone number and/or a simple signup form, and a nice, big submit button. The trick is to explain things clearly and make it easy for them to engage with you.
There are plenty of third-party softwares that will provide a landing page for you. Their prices range from free, to thirty or more dollars per month.
The landing page is also called a capture page, or a squeeze page. The words of the English writer G.K. Chesterton apply here. He has said that writing is like guiding a flock of sheep down the road, and closing off the gates that go elsewhere. So, lead your sheep to a proper landing page and make your sale.
The ad platform companies are always happy to take your money. But if you don’t include certain essential elements of a good ad technique, you wind up paying “stupid tax,” according to ad expert Perry Marshall.
