Kevin Banet interviewed on BLTV business podcast

More than one-third of smaller home care agencies do not have a search ranking program in place, and are thus missing out on a great marketing channel, according to the preliminary results of an informal study by Savvy Senior Marketing.

In this recent interview on the popular video show “Seize Your Business,” I explain how preliminary results of our research show that nearly four out of ten, or 38% of smaller home care agencies in Illinois may be missing out on a good marketing opportunity by their lack of a search ranking program.

We at Savvy Senior Marketing are conducting an informal study involving search ranking using the term “home care” followed by the name of the city in which the home care agency operates. In other words, we use “home care Elgin” if the location is in Elgin, IL. Google, which has 90% of the search market, is being used in the test. Thirty-eight percent of smaller home care agencies did not rank at all.

Forty-six percent of home care agencies in this group rank on the first page for this keyword, which means that they have a search ranking program in place. For those who don’t rank, this means that their website was likely not optimized well when it was built. It also means that they likely do not have an ongoing search engine optimization (SEO) program in place.

Locally-owned agencies

Our study is being done on the smaller home-care agencies who are not part of a large, national franchise. Thus, when we say 38%, we mean that we surveyed those agencies who 1) have a website, and 2) are not part of a national franchise.

Search engine optimization for local businesses works well when it is properly carried out. Here are the SEO tips I pointed out, including a few not mentioned in the interview.

Best Practice for SEO

  1. On-page optimization, including meta tags
  2. Getting website click-through signups and conversion, which Google likes
  3. Writing quality, helpful content
  4. Social signals, especially good reviews on Yelp, Google My Business, etc.
  5. Keeping up comments on social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  6. Registering your physical address with Google
  7. YouTube videos, which should be properly optimized and commented on, and have a link to your website
  8. Getting links to your site from other websites high in authority and trust.

Public relations means free publicity

In the interview, I also tell the story about how my brother got free publicity for the swimming pool where he was a lifeguard. He called the newspaper where I used to be a reporter for a “Christmas in July” program that went over well.

I also talk about how claiming a page on the review sites is important, as well as responding to negative reviews. Also here is a story of how I gained a monthly marketing job when I called a prospect as soon as they opened my newsletter.
