Right at Home has got it right.

So has Synergy HomeCare.

They both have optimized website pages for Orland Park, a city in the southwest Chicago suburbs that they serve.

Thus, these home care agencies are able to attract home care prospects who are looking for good caregivers.

Of course, we’re talking about search engine optimization (SEO), a great way for prospects to find your website. It’s relatively easy to get listed on page one of Google for your own city. But if you want to wield influence outside of your city to other towns, you have to take extra steps.

One such agency that has recently begun to build up its SEO presence for numerous cities is Destiny Senior Care. We at Savvy Senior Marketing are building up their local presence for ten cities in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.

In Destiny’s case, we tailor information about home care on each of the city pages, which are called location pages in SEO parlance. For example, although Destiny is based in Orland Park, we made a page for the nearby city of Aurora. We talk about Destiny’s home care services and its caregivers. To make the page unique, we have written a history piece for the page and included a photo of downtown Aurora. This also gives visitors a sense of home when they visit the site.

Forty-four cities for SEO

You can see that the page for Aurora has a special section with the headline, “We Serve These Areas … and More.” On that section are the names of 44 cities. Ten of them are linked to specific location pages on the website. We will make more location pages as time goes on. Each location page is built on the same template. Each page also has the list of other cities served. Thus, each location page is linked to the other location pages. All of the pages are linked from the website’s home page. Links on the home page are important because they tell Google that these pages are important.

The location pages will act as landing pages for people searching on Google and other search engines. In other words, people who have never heard about Destiny Senior Care will search and then land on the location page nearest their area. The location page will be the first page on the entire website seen by them – not the home page.

Location page must sell

So the location page must do its job of selling the home care service. Thus, it is a long page, and it talks about the importance of home care, the quality of the caregivers and the training they receive, and a section with links to pages featuring each of the nine services offered, which are activities of daily living.

The location page also has plenty of eye candy, such as bullet points, pictures, bolded words and subheads. And of course there are repeated calls to actions. There are three calls to action duplicated down the page: a phone number, a button to a contact form for an email, and a button to make a calendar appointment.

Searches from multiple cities

If you’re intent on strengthening your search muscles for multiple cities, don’t forget to tell Google your own office location. Place your address and city (or at least your city) on the footer of every page. Some of the smaller home care agencies, reluctant to publicize their home address, get a UPS box and then list the UPS street address at the bottom of the page footer.

The Destiny website has recently seen a jump in the number of visitors to their site since Savvy Senior Marketing began to optimize their page. However, SEO takes at least three months to begin to see a real rise in website visits, and six months to see prospects knocking on their doors as a result of SEO.
